Meet Amy Nelson, MD

Education

Amy Nelson, M.D., graduated cum laude from Washington University in St. Louis, MO, majoring in psychology and psychology, neuroscience, and philosophy.

She went on to attend medical school at the University of Tennessee Health Science Center here in Memphis.

Dr. Nelson completed her residency as an administrative chief resident at Baylor College of Medicine in Houston, TX, where she gained a vast amount of experience with high-risk obstetrics and developed a love for minimally invasive procedures.

Experience

Dr. Nelson is board-certified and a member of the American College of Obstetrics and Gynecology.

Dr. Nelson moved to Austin, TX after residency and practiced obstetrics and gynecology for a number of years before moving back to her hometown of Memphis, TN. Initially, she worked for Resurrection Health, a faith-based, nonprofit clinic that catered to the underserved in Memphis, until it closed.

She joined Women’s Health Specialists because of its commitment to excellence in women’s healthcare.

Outside the Office

In her free time, Dr. Nelson and her husband enjoy watching the Grizzlies, trying out new restaurants, cooking, being outdoors, and reading.
